Substantial Period Domestic Property, Shropshire

Brief: The replacement of the 1940s steel casement windows with commercial aluminium.

Overview

An unusual project that was both very demanding and satisfying to undertake, requiring accurate and concentrated attention to detail.

Client’s brief was to replace the steel casement windows for more thermally efficient and secure windows, whist retaining the existing high quality oak timber sub-frames and period look of the property.

Our slim-line commercial aluminium, thermally broken window system was used in a White powder-coated finish.

The odd leg profile of the window system was modified to match the rebate of the existing oak timber sub-frames.

Fitting tolerances were reduced to less that 2mm to negate visual sealant joints, and the retained oak timber sub-frames where redecorated in RAL colour-matched gloss paint.

Thermally efficient low ‘e’ Argon gas filled sealed double glazed units where installed, constructed from twin 6.4mm clear laminated safety glass to improve security.

The result is possibly one of the highest quality metal/timber composite window modification schemes that we have seen and had the privilege to carry out.
