Repairs
| Wealth of experience |
Over the years we have built up a wealth of experience and information on many types of window and door systems used throughout the UK, enabling us to competently carry out all types of repairs. |
| Extensive stockholding |
We stock many commonly used hardware parts and can source most currently available items, as well as some of the more obscure “new old stock” items for older window and door systems. We also have an in house facility to engineer and manufacture non-available obsolete parts in small volume. |
| All types of windows and doors undertaken |
We provide a professional repair service for all types of Steel, Aluminium and UPVC windows and doors carried out by our experienced maintenance engineers. |
| Poor repairs are a risk! |
The correct repair of a commercial aluminium door or window is a specialized undertaking that should be handled by qualified staff using the correct or recognized equivalent hardware. This is a service that we routinely carry out. For example, a commercial centre pivot aluminium door can weigh in excess of 100kg, if badly repaired, could separate from its frame with disastrous consequences. |
The picture shows a badly worn end load drive arm assembly removed from a double glazed commercial aluminium centre pivot door in a primary school.
Severn Valley was asked to repair the door which was not closing correctly under its own power. On investigation we found that the door closer’s drive pivot is very badly worn (see photos). The bolts which hold the end cap onto the drive arm do a very important job – keeping the door connected to the hydraulic door closer unit, and keeping the door in its frame. Compare the worn drive arm to a new drive arm shown on the right.
At some point previously, what should be high tensile steel cap screws with locking washers had been replaced with mild steel hexagonal headed bolts, probably because the original bolts had come loose due to a lack of maintenance causing wear in the drive arm.
What we came across was a totally unsatisfactory, potentially very dangerous and incompetent repair. Our engineer replaced the drive arm with a new one, the only repair solution. We see far too many dangerous repairs of this type.
