Window and Door Operators
Window Winding Gear
Defined as: 'A system of remote mechanical operation of high level or inaccessible windows from a distance away'
The idea is simple enough but the mechanical complexities require a well designed and manufactured product that will reliably function with the minimum amount of maintenance.
Our services include:
| Repair and installation of Teleflex Clear-Line window winding gear systems |
We regard this system as the most proven and reliable type of mechanical window winding gear available today. This is based on our extensive experience in the window winding gear market. The Teleflex Clear-Line window winding gear system has been adopted as the industry standard and been copied by rival companies in an attempt to compete with it. Available in White, Brown and Silver Grey finishes to suit most types of top hung and bottom hung casement windows. Special adaptation kits are also available for vertically sliding sash windows. |
| Service and repair of early mechanical shaft and lever window winding gear systems |
Includes those as manufactured by Hope and Crittal. Almost all of this type of gear is now obsolete and replacement parts are made to order, though new sets of gear can be commissioned if required. |
| Repair and installation of endless cord operated Rack and Preston high level openers |
Still available, this type of gear provides the most cost effective solution to the operation of high level windows. Suitable for top hung and bottom hung windows. |
Door Closers
Defined as: 'A spring-operated device with hydraulic dampening action to safely control and close a door into its frame without slamming it shut'
A door closer unit does more than just close the door behind you, it also safely controls the door under the influence of wind load and through draft.
Doors closers come in various formats including:
| Surface mounted |
Found on all types of steel, aluminium, UPVC and timber doors, they are installed on the upper face of the door. |
| Transom concealed |
Generally found on commercial aluminium centre pivot doors, we do have experience of this type of door closer being used without any problems on well-designed timber and steel centre pivot doors. |
| Floor mounted |
Found on all types of steel, aluminium and timber doors, this type of door closer is installed into the floor directly below the pivot point of the door in a metal foundation box. |
When installing door closers there are a number of points to consider:
| Power size to suit the door |
It is important that the correct type and strength of door closer is installed, for example, a light duty door closer on a wide, heavy weight door will not have enough power to safely control and close the door, and a heavy duty door closer installed onto a narrow, light weight door will prove difficult to open. |
| Correct position and fixings |
A door closer has to be installed with the right fixings in the correct position on the door to function correctly and reliably. |
| Aluminium centre pivot doors |
Many commercial aluminium centre pivot door systems have a concealed hydraulic door closer system, built into the aluminium transom section directly above the door leaf. It is important that the service and replacement of this type of door closer is done correctly, which will include the removal of what may be a heavy door from its frame to maintain a safe, operational door. By far the largest number of ‘botched’ door closer repairs and replacements that we see involve this type of door closer. |
Our stock comprises of the majority of commonly found door closers used throughout the UK, including brands such as Dorma, Axim, LCN, and Ryobi including various drive arms options to suit.
Mounting and adaption plates are also available in standard patterns. We can also custom manufacture specially modified plates as the requirement arises, often on site by our skilled team of maintenance engineers.
